Hello Barn Blog! My name is Nathalie Rodriguez, and I am proud to be part of the team here at the Historic Wakefield Barn. I am currently working in my internship as an Assistant Venue Manager and Event Planner, and my time here has truly been an incredible experience. Throughout my internship (October 2025 - present), I have learned so much about the wedding and event industry.
One of my favorite parts of this internship has been meeting new couples every week. It’s always such an honor when couples trust our team to help them plan one of the most important days of their lives. Being able to be part of their wedding planning journey and watch their vision come to life is something really special.
During my time at the barn, I’ve focused on three main areas that have helped shape my experience: (1) Event Days, (2) Marketing and Social media, and (3) Office Operations. See below to learn more, and see here if you would like to join our dynamic team!
Event Days at the Barn
Event days are always exciting and full of energy. On wedding days and other events, one of my responsibilities is opening the venue and getting everything ready for the day ahead. I make sure the space is prepared and welcoming so that when the couple and their parties arrive, they feel comfortable, relaxed, and excited for the day ahead. For weddings that receive planning services from our venue team, I also work as the Wedding Planner’s Assistant. In this role, I help support the planner throughout the day by assisting with timelines, coordinating with vendors, and making sure everything stays on schedule.
Being part of the planning team allows me to see firsthand how all the details come together to create a seamless wedding day. These moments have taught me a lot about working with people and creating a positive experience for everyone at the venue. Every event is different, and I’ve learned how to engage with new people, stay organized, and handle different situations while keeping everything running smoothly. Being part of the planning process and seeing a wedding day unfold from start to finish is truly one of the most rewarding parts of the job at the Historic Wakefield Barn.
Marketing and Social Media
Another area I’ve really enjoyed is working with Marketing and Social Media. Creating content for our luxury venue is something I genuinely love doing. When I first started my internship, I thought I was already a creative person, but working at the barn has brought out even more of that creativity. I love coming up with new video ideas and content that showcase the beauty and charm of the venue.
Whether it's filming behind-the-scenes moments, capturing wedding details, or creating fun videos with our team and couples, marketing has become one of my favorite ways to contribute to the venue. Over the course of my internship, I’m proud to say that I have helped manage and create content on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, Google, TikTok, Pinterest, and LinkedIn. Personally, TikTok is my favorite!
Office Days
Office days have also been a huge part of my growth during this internship. These days have helped me become more confident and organized while learning the behind-the-scenes work that keeps a venue running successfully. I’ve gained experience with bookkeeping, in-house inventory, leads management, DocuSign overviews, communicating through contracts, updating websites, monitoring Google reviews, and helping with client communication. I've also gotten to learn about and work with HomeBase, Zola, Wedding Pro, Monday.com, Wix, and Excel just to name a few!
Seeing how all of these pieces come together has helped me understand how much work goes into planning and coordinating successful events at a high level.
What I’ve Learned: A Recap
During my time here, I have gained valuable experience in planning and organizing events. From coordinating details to making sure everything runs smoothly, I’ve learned just how much dedication and teamwork go into creating a beautiful and memorable wedding day. This internship has also taught me the importance of communication. Working with couples, vendors, and our venue team has shown me how essential strong communication and collaboration are when bringing events to life.
My experience at the Historic Wakefield Barn continues to inspire me, and I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to learn, grow, and be part of such meaningful celebrations with such a strong team. I look forward to continuing to develop my skills and helping create unforgettable moments for every couple who celebrates with us.
